Budget handed down today

Treasurer Andrew Fraser delivers the 2009-10 State Budget.

Included in this year's Budget is a record $18.2 billion building program, supporting 127,000 full-time jobs.

Here is an excerpt of the Treasurer's Speech to the House at 2.30 this afternoon:

"The framework set by this Budget and the bills I introduce today are the most significant structural reforms to the State's finances since the Second World War.

"Together the bills seek to address the ravages of a global recession not seen since the Great Depression.

"This is a Budget that reinforces our determination to build Queensland's future.

"…our determination to create jobs for Queenslanders with our record building program.

"…our determination to keep pace with the essential services needed by a young a growing State with more nurses, more police, more teachers and frontline workers.

"…our determination to apply fiscal discipline and make the tough decisions to put the State's finances on the pathway to surplus.

"…our determination to keep our eye firmly on the future as we deal with the immediate challenges".
