The Bligh Government’s seventh Community Cabinet was held in Hervey Bay and Maryborough on the weekend of June 29 and 30, 2008.
The Queensland Government is partnering with Fraser Coast Regional Council and Wide Bay Water Corporation to build a $12.8 million Water Education Park at Pialba. At the Hervey Bay Community Cabinet luncheon, Premier Anna Bligh and Minister for Sustainability, Climate Change and Innovation and Member for Hervey Bay Andrew McNamara presented a cheque for $4.95 million from the Q150 Legacy Infrastructure Program to Mayor of Fraser Coast Regional Council Mick Kruger and CEO of Wide Bay Water Corporation Tim Waldron.

At the Hervey Bay Community Cabinet Forum, high school students who have undertaken the Lions Club program Stand and Deliver, which develops self-confidence and public speaking skills, presented the Premier with a colourful ‘wish list.’

Premier Bligh presented certificates to three members of the Hill family who have just completed Wide Bay Institute of TAFE’s Elements of Shipboard Safety course. Julie Hill (front), who broke her spine in a car accident 18 years ago, is believed to be the first paraplegic in Queensland to complete the program. With husband Kevin and son Daniel, Julie operates Blue Horizon Cruises, which offers a whale watching vessel completely accessible to people with a disability.
