Current performance
Queensland has a strong record of businesses creating and harnessing new ideas to work smarter and develop better products.
Innovation success stories include Brisbane-based ICT leader Mincom and Far North Queensland's Barramundi Blue. Mincom exports its resource planning software system around the world while Barramundi Blue has revolutionised traditional aquaculture with a system that uses less land, water and energy to achieve the same results.
But innovation is also about the front and back office changes that make businesses run smoother and faster. In 2006-07, 36% of Queensland businesses developed or introduced new or significantly improved products or services. This made us the innovation leader in the nation.
Strengthening our innovation performance even more will improve our competitiveness, increase Queensland's attractiveness to business investors and better prepare us to face emerging global issues.
